Luminous path inspection system for connector matrix assembly - uses projector to direct light through product to optical fibres sensing its presence or absence

A light source mounted on a working surface comprises a projection lamp containing a mirror and condenser lens. This produces uniform lighting directed onto the product being inspected. A chassis for the inspection station comprises a base plate on four feet. Supports provide a pivoting axis for a frame which in its rest position is supported by two feet. This houses a matrix of optical fibres which are illuminated by the projector through a product sandwiched between the window and matrix. Electronic circuits sense the presence or absence of the light and provide signals to indicate lights. A side visor protects the operator against dazzle and shades the lamps to make the indications readily visible. The system is used to monitor the contacts forming a 32 x 32 matrix, as used in telephone circuitry.
