Pre-heater cold start device for IC engine - uses electric heating elements in inlet pipe to each cylinder to preheat air before starter is operated

The device uses an electric resistance to heat the air in the inlet manifold while the engine is cold, and pref. there is one heating element for each cylinder, placed in the inlet pipe to each cylinder. The heater (5) has a winding of resistance wire (6) supported on a cruciform former of insulating sheet with holes drilled along its length to locate the conductor. The resistance wires are connected together at one end to form a single external connection (16). The resistances are wired into the electrical system so that the starter motor cannot be operated while the heaters are energised. A timer is used to control the heating period.
