The orthopaedic corset comprises a rigid shell which fits against one half of the thoracic cage. The shell is secured by a shoulder piece (1) which rests on one of the user's shoulders and which is retained by a strap. The front edge (14) of the shoulder piece has a line of hooks formed on it and the rear edge has a line of loops. The rigid shell fits into a flexible double-walled envelope (3) which is open along the front vertical wall to insert the shell. The upper edges at the front and back have rows of resilient hooks and loops which engage the complementary formations on the edges of the shoulder piece to hold them in place.
