Process for sepn. of particles by mass - uses fluidised bed followed by filter to recover low mass particles

A particle separator employs the principle of separation by fluidisation in air to separate particles by their mass rather than by their size as in a conventional screening apparatus. Since upwards air flow is necessary for fluidisation a screen is located above the top of the fluid bed so that oversize light particles do not pass out of the bed. The light particles which pass the screen are collected in an external filter. Used in particle separation, esp. in the carbon black manufacturing industry.
