In a microfilm reader, a microfilm stage is provided with a replaceable microfiche holder (3, 5, 6) which is mounted, capable of being displaced by means of a rail (4) in one coordinate direction (X), on a stage support plate (1) displaceable in the other coordinate direction (Y), and additionally rests loosely on a bearing strip (11) arranged on the stage support plate (1) and parallel to the rail (4). The aim is to achieve in a simple way that unintentional displacement in the direction (X) of the rail is selectively prevented. For this purpose, the bearing strip or its surface is produced from a material or with a surface having a high friction coefficient, and arranged replaceably or exchangeably with another bearing strip having a low friction coefficient on the film support plate (1).
