Two-pin mains safety socket for domestic appliances - has insulating rotating mechanism which brings plug pins into electrical contact with supply after 45 degree turning motion

The device is partic intended for continental two-pin plugs. The socket contains a rotating mechanism which automatically causes the plug to rotate through 45 degs. around a central pivot upon plugging in. Two resilient springs are connected to the mains supply and are fixed in parallel at a separation distance slightly less than the spacing of the plug pins. The springs have two curved recesses into which the plug pins fit when the plug is engaged. Rotation is achieved by means of insulating sloping spiral ramps which guide the plug body. Motion of the plug is opposed by a sprial spring which assists its extraction. The holes guiding the plug pins have no metallic parts and the live terminals are totally enclosed within the socketbody. The mechanism can be adapted to three-pin plug types.
