Suppositories contg. indomethacin - in hydrophilic fatty acid ester carrier

Suppositories based on indomethacin (I) contain a unit dose of (I) in combination with a hydrophilic carrier comprising fatty acid esters. The unit dose of (I) is pref. 25-200 (esp. 25-100) mg. The carrier is pref. a prod. obtained by direct esterification of glycerol and polyoxyethylene glycol with natural fatty acids, esp. "Suppocire AP". The suppositories can be prepd. by heating the carrier to 35-40 deg.C, adding (I), pouring the mixt. into capsules, and allowing to cool to room temp. (I) has antiinflammatory and analgesic activity. Hydrophilic ester carriers have good rectal absorption properties (comparable to conventional polyethylene glycol carriers) together with good local tolerance.
