Composite hollow body of circular form consists of two interpenetrating jointless layers of which the outer is formed in a material reinforced with fibres, is described in which the inner layer consists of pressed or sintered graphite and traversed by a carbide cpd.; and the outer layer comprises multiple layers of fibre reinforced carbon wound onto the inner layer, and consolidated in known manner by coking under pressure. The body is for use as a centrifuge drum in gas centrifuges. A centrifuge drum having a high resistance to heat is obtd. which can be mfd. in constantly reproducible manner by known techniques.
