The method of formation of electrodes for lead-acid batteries uses perforated sheet steel to form the support for the lead oxide layer forming the active part of the electrode. Steel strip is initially perforated in equally spaced steps along the strip and parallel to its edge. A second line of perforations is then formed, also parallel to the strip edge but longitudinally displaced by a half step from the others. The edge of the strip is left unperforated, and is gripped so that a force can be exerted perpendicular to the strip edges, opening out the perforated sheet to form a mesh. A line of smaller incisions near the edge reduce the mesh dimensions near the edges.
