The adjustable machine tool stop uses a column (6) on a base (3) to mount a sliding holder (7) with a sliding stop (13) and the base is fixed to a machine. The holder slides vertically on the column and the stop can slide in a perpendicular direction. The assembly is lockable at any holder height and any stop extension. Perpendicular holes (8,9) in the holder accommodate the column and the stop respectively, the locking mechanism using sleeves (23,25) in a third hole (12) at right angles to the others. The third hole intersects the others whilst the sleeves come into contact with the column and the stop respectively via faces with complementary contours (27,28). A hand lever (30) is used to rotate a rod (21) and to apply the sleeves to the column and the stop, thus effecting locking.
