A method for detecting a failure in an electrically non-conductive coating (4) applied on a structure (3), said structure being surrounded by liquid, comprises the steps of simultaneously impressing electrical currents on two different sections (8; 8') on the said structure in order to obtain a polarized part of the said structure between the said sections (8; 8') of the said coated part (4) in relation to its surroundings, and picking-up a current, being caused by a failure in the said coating (4). The first section may be situated near a first end of the coated part of the structure, the other section being situated near a second end of the said coated part (4) of the said structure (3). IMAGE
