PURPOSE:To improve the reliability of the measurement precision of a plate section profile by adjusting head positions of a 3-head type gamma-ray thickness gauge through a plate width gauge and edge gauges which are arranged at specific positions when the plate section profile is measured by the 3-head type gamma-ray thickness gauge. CONSTITUTION:The 3-head type gamma-ray thickness gauge 18 is installed on the rear surface of a rolling mill 16 which rolls a rolled material 7 as shown by an arrow, and the plate width gauge 17 and edge gauges 19 and 20 are arranged before and behind it. Then, variation in plate width in the lengthwise direction of a plate, variation in offset, and transition of the amount of chamber are measured in the middle of the rolling by the plate width gauge 17 consisting of a detection part having a scanner 12, setting motor 11, and encoder 10, and a lower light source 9 and the edge position gauges 19 and 20, and their measurement signals are inputted as plate breadthwise position setting signals of heads 4-6 of the thickness gauge 18 to set respective head positions through a microcomputer 14 and a head position controller 15. Therefore, the reliability of the measurement precision of the cross-sectional profile is improved.
