METHOD FOR PREVENTING TRANSVERSE CRACK IN MULTILAYERED BUILD-UP WELD METAL

PURPOSE:To prevent easily generation of a transverse crack by laminating a weld metal layer on a weld zone, and forming a weld metal layer contg. a small amt. of diffusible hydrogen by gas shielded welding on the weld metal layer. CONSTITUTION:A weld metal layer by submerged arc welding is laminated and formed to a prescribed throat thickness in a groove and thereafter a weld metal layer contg. a small amt. of diffusible hydrogen by gas metal arc welding is laminated on said weld metal layer, thereby forming the layer before the final layer and the final layer. The amt. of the diffusible hydrogen near the final layer of the multilayered build-up weld metal is thus reduced and the transverse crack in the multilayered build-up weld metal is prevented.
