PURPOSE:To attain efficient heating to an object under an excellent electromagnetic environment by irradiating externally an electromagnetic wave propagating in a cylindrical waveguide by an axial slot and collecting the wave directly so as to realize a comparatively small-sized device. CONSTITUTION:In a rectangular waveguide having the axial slot, the leaked electromagnetic wave from the slot 4 is collected by decreasing gradually the width 3 of the waveguide along the propagating direction so as to control the propagating constant in the waveguide. Since the propagating constant of the waveguide is controlled so as to direct the irradiating direction of the leaked electromagnetic wave from the slot entirely in a prescribed position 7 in order to collect the electromagnetic wave, the device is constituted by decreasing gradually the width 3 of the waveguide in the propagating direction accordingly. In forming the device having a slot length of 400mm. and width of 0.5mm. and exciting a WRJ-10 rectangular waveguide at a frequency of 10GHz, the power distribution the same as the vicinity of a focus of wave optics is produced at a region having a distance of 400mm. from the device and it shows that the electromagnetic wave is collected in this region.
