METHOD FOR IMPROVING RECOGNITION RATE OF CHARACTER IN OPTICAL CHARACTER RECOGNIZING DEVICE

PURPOSE:To improve the reduction of character recognition rate due to small dirt with high density adhered to an original or noises by erasing black information from an unrecognized character up to the maximum number of continuous black information obtained from an unnecessary writing extracting area. CONSTITUTION:When the unnecessary writing extracting area 4 of a business from 1 is scanned by a scanner 6 and black information due to dirt or noises is extracted, an unnecessary writing extracting part 13 counts up the number of black information continued in the horizontal direction X or vertical direction Y of the business form 1 and stores the maximum number of continuous black information in a memory 14. If a character recognizing part 10 can not recognize a character due to dirt or a noise as the result of scanning a recognition character entering area 3, the part 10 outputs a recognition disabled signal to the unnecessary writing extracting part 13. One black information is erased from each of an unnecessary black information block obtained from a character entering frame and a black information block obtained from the character to recognize the character. If the character can not be recognized yet, one more black information is recognized and the erasing and recognition are repeated up to the value of a maximum memory 14.
