MANUFACTURE OF ACTIVATED CARBON FIBER OR ACTIVATED CARBON FIBER STRUCTURE

摘要

PURPOSE:To manufacture activated carbon fiber or its structure having superior tensile strength and small surface area dispersion, by burning hardened novolak fiber or its structure by a specified condition under an atmosphere of mixture of steam and inert gas. CONSTITUTION:A novolak resin of 700 to 1500 mean molecular weight is fusion spinned, immersed in an aqueous solution mixture containing 15 to 20 wt.% hydrochloric acid and 8 to 25 wt.% aldehydes, kept at temperatures gradually raised from 40 deg. to 90 deg.C for few hours, the cured novolak fiber or its structure hardened up to a weight increase of 8 to 25% based on the nonhardened fiber or structure is immersed in an aqueous solution of 25 wt.% or higher methanol or ethanol at 40 to 70 deg.C for 10 to 120 minuits to remove oxidation decomposition products, and baked by raising temperature from 100-250 deg.C up to above 700 deg.C at a raising speed of 200 to 2000 deg.C per hour under an atmosphere of gas mixture consisting of 19 to 49 volume % and 90 to 51 volume % inert gas.
