The ladder (1) is provided with an extension (2) which is swivelable at a point (B) some distance from its upper end (C). Two stays (A-C) are pivoted to the extension and can be coupled to the upper end to form two rigid parallel triangles, with the base resting on the slope of a roof whilst the ladder stands up against the wall of a building. - The stays have a number of longitudinally spaced coupling points which permits adapting the angle of the extension (2) to the roof slope. The ladder may be height-extendable. The arrangement stabilises the ladder and is particularly suitable for working on the roof. FL.
