Each person wishing to start slimming stands on the machine, presses one of five large numbered buttons to identify himself, presses the target weight entry key, and enters the desired weight using the ten numbered keys. He then presses the period key and enters the time allowed for that weight loss. A reset key is available if entry errors are made. - When the person next weighs himself, the machine calculates the weight which should have been reached by that time, and displays it on a digital read-out, followed by the actual weight. If the weight loss is on schedule, a loudspeaker produces a pleasant sound, such as a tune; if a slight weight gain has been made, it emits a 'raspberry' noise, and if a large weight gain has been made, it makes the noise of a klaxon, siren or other alarming noise.
