The tractor drawn PTO actuated cutter unit is connected by three bars (2). At the bottom of the upright frame (1) is a carrier (3) formed of long parallel arranged prongs. The top of the frame has a fixed main beam (5) and movable beam (6). This beam has a cutter, e.g. saw or knife. The movable beam slides in a reciprocating manner along the main beam. To facilitate this, the main beam has three guide strips (9) along which the rollers (10) of the movable beam (6) carry a wagon (11). The front of the main beam (5) has an attached chain (12) on which the wagon is coupled. The chain moves backwards and forwards by means of a motor (13) which drives chain wheels (14). The cutter (7) is supported by brackets (15) which reciprocate along the movable beam (6). A chain (16) above the movable beam (6) is at a fixed point, connected with the carrier (15) and is driven by a motor (17) mounted on the movable beam (6).
