When a halogen spot light reaches the end of its life, the glass envelope can explode, and a dangerous situation can arise if the explosion causes a live conductor to touch a metal reflector. The present spot light therefore uses a plastics concave reflector. The reflector (4) is only attached to the housing (9) of the unit at its coolest point, so that conducted heat will not damage the reflector. The rim (11) of the reflector is clamped to that (12) of the housing and to the transparent front plate (10) by a clamping band (13). The evacuated bulb (2) is linked by conductors (3) to a screw-in lamp fitting (8).
