Aryl esters, such as phenyl esters, are made by reaction of an aromatic cpd. such as benzene in liq. phase with molecular oxygen, in presence of carboxylic acid pref. contg. at least 6C atoms. The catalyst used consists of a Pd cpd., an Sb cpd. and a cpd. of at least one element selected from Cr, Co, Ni, Mn, Fe and Sn. The aromatic cpd. is added continuously to the reaction mixt. and the water formed is removed rapidly and continuously.
