Porous high temp abradable seal - for gas turbine engines, comprises sintered iron, nickel or cobalt alloy

A porous high temp. member, having an improved combination of oxidation and erosion resistance, controlled thermal conductivity and low elevated temp. flow stress which provides, upon rubbing contact with another member, a compliant base and a flowed continuous facing, comprises metallurgical bonded, metallographically distinguishable alloy powder particles in the size range of about +140 to -270 US Standard Sieve mesh. The alloy has the compsn. (by wt.) 15-35% Cr, 8-20% Al, up to 5% of one or more of Y, Hf and rare earth elements, balance Fe, Co and/or Ni. The member has 65-90% theoretical density.
