ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSUREThis invention provides a hand held apparatus fortrimming the claws or hoofs of animals. The apparatus com-prises a housing; a drive means mounted in the housing andhaving a rotating output shaft; a trimming member coupled tothe output shaft and being formed as a milling cutter; agenerally annular head surrounding the trimming member andhaving an end face; means for fastening the head on thehousing permitting movement of the head along the axis ofrotation of the trimming member; and concentric spring meanssurrounding the shaft for resiliently biasing the head awayfrom the housing so that the end face of the head is flushwith the end of the milling cutter and for allowing the headto tilt along any one of a plurality of planes with respectto the milling cutter responsive to pressure exerted againstthe claw or hoof to expose the cutter. The invention avoidsdisadvantages encountered with prior art devices in whicha chip removing member is provided with which a long, sub-stantially maintenance-free operating time is possible,without the chip removing member getting clogged.
