Case 4-12545/+Antibiotic preparations with increased efficacy, productionthereof, and method of intensifying the action of antibioticsAbstract of the DisclosureThe present invention relates to a method ofintensifying the action of antibiotics, to antibioticpreparations having increased efficacy, and to theproduction thereof.The method comprises the administrationof an antibiotic selectedfrom the group consisting of the .beta.-lactam antibiotics,aminoglycosides, tetracyclines, macrolides, lincomycins,polyene antibiotics, polypeptide antibiotics, anthracyclines,chloro- or thiamphenicols, cycloserins, fusidic acids orrifamycins, together with a muramylpeptide of the formula(I)wherein R1 is lower alkyl, phenyl, lower alkoxy orphenyl-lower alkoxy, each of which is substituted orunsubstituted, R2 is hydrogen or acyl, R3 is hydrogenor lower alkyl, R4 is hydrogen or lower alkyl, and R5 ishydrogen or lower alkyl or phenyl, each of which issubstituted or unsubstituted, or R4 and R5together are lower alkylene, and each of- 2 -R6 and R7 is free or etherified hydroxyl or substituted orunsubstituted amino, and/or one or more salts of acompound of the formula I containing at least onesalt-forming group.
