JUSTIFICATION OF OVERSTRUCK TEXTAbstractOverstruck text is justified by distributing thewhite space residue at the end of the unjustified lineamong the interword spaces for justification. Theamount of the residue distributed is used to determinea number of overstrike characters which will over-strike the text including these expanded interwordspaces. This is accomplished by placing controls inthe text stream during editing to delineate the textto be overstruck. Before printing, these controls inthe edited data stream are detected to cause the printline to be first justified by expansion of interwordspaces and then followed by overstriking with theappropriate number of overstrike characters determinedduring the justification process.
