THICKENED-WATER BASED HYDRAULIC FLUIDSAbstract of the DisclosureThis invention relates to thickened high-viscositywater based hydraulic fluids. Such fluids are prepared byblending water, organic thickener and conventional hydraulicfluid additives. Organic thickeners tend to lose theirthickening effect with time, and particularly when subjectedto oxidizing agents, heat, prolonged use in a pump, etc. Inaccordance with the instant invention, preservation of thethickener, particularly with respect to viscosity loss, isachieved by blending with the final fluid a fluidconcentrate, or the thickener itself, a compound selectedfrom the group consisting of ethylene glycol, propyleneglycol, propylene glycol polymers and copolymers containingat least 50 percent by weight of oxypropylene groups, adimercaptothiadiazole, neodecanoic acid, a hindered phenolantioxidant and mixtures thereof.
