A loop-the-loop roller coaster has a coaster vehicle which reciprocates along a coaster runway consisting of ends (4), (5) and a loop-the-loop unit (3) midway between a first section (1) and the second section (2) of the runway, and returns from the end (5) of the second section (2) and is stopped by a brake unit. The first section (1) and the second section (2) are arranged substantially parallel to each other on the same side of the loop-the-loop unit (3), in a direction different from the radial direction (A) of the loop-the-loop unit (3). The loop-the-loop unit (3) has a first loop (11) and a second loop (12). The second loop (12) is positioned nearer the ends (4), (5) of the runway than the first loop (11) so that the portion of the runway from the first section (1) to the first loop (11) passes through the second loop (12). The brake unit has pairs of rotary tires (55) and disc plates (56) journaled to the shafts of the tires, and an air brake (57) detachably mounts the disc plates (56). A brake shoe (52) provided below the vehicle is contacted under pressure by the tires (55), (55) when it passes between the tires (55) and (55), thereby stopping the vehicle.
