A DEVICE, A PROCEDURE AND EMPLOYMENT CONCERNING DIESEL ENGINES USING TWO DIFFERENT FUELS AND EMPLOYMENT OF THE DEVICE FOR STARTING SUCH ENGINES

For a diesel engine (6, 5) with two fuels, using diesel oil and a gas extracted by boiling a cryogenic fluid as fuel, the two fuels being introduced into the combustion chamber of the engine via respective valves, a connection of a pipe (7) controlled by a valve is arranged from a source of inert gas (N2) to the gas valve of the engine (22, 23, 24, 25), and a connection of a pipe valve controlled is provided from the engine gas valve to the atmosphere. This arrangement makes it possible to perform several auxiliary functions, in addition to that which consists in introducing the fuel gas into the cylinder during normal operation. For example, one can obtain a rapid evacuation of the gas from the pipe system and neutralize the system (by rendering it inert) by a flow of gas through the gas valves and in the cylinders (5, 6) of the engine. The valves (22, 23, 24, 25) can be effectively cooled by supplying inert valves to these valves. The engine can be turned over using this system, introducing inert gas. The engine can be started by introducing high pressure inert gas / air. The engine can also be started using boiling exhaust gas and an appropriate source of ignition.
