The process is intended for the margin reinforcement, cut-edge reinforcement, cut-edge protection and marginal connection of sheet-like material webs, such as wire mesh, gauze, tulle, tarpaulin and the like, especially sailcloth. In this, thermoplastic strips (4) are preferably laid on both sides onto the marginal region (3) of the material web (1) and, by means of a high-frequency welding technique, are welded together through the existing mesh apertures or through a previously made marginal perforation (2) in the material web (1), these apertures (2) being filled.
