1374024 Organotin mercaptoacid esters DART INDUSTRIES Inc 2 Feb 1972 4987/72 Heading C2J Diorganotin bis-(thioglycollate esters) are prepared by continuously passing a reaction mixture containing a diorganotin oxide and a mercaptocarboxylic acid ester through a heat exchange zone, usually a tubular heat exchange apparatus at about 75 to 160‹ C., and collecting the desired bis-(ester) from the outlet of the zone. By-product water is preferably removed by evaporation, which may be aided by the use of reduced pressure. In the examples, dibutyltin- and dioctyltin- S,SSP1/SP-bis-(iso-octyl thioglycollate), dibutyltin-S,SSP1/SP-bis-(dodecylthioglycollate) and dibutyltin-S,SSP1/SP-bis-(ethylthioglycollate) are prepared, the latter compound being claimed per se. The process yields bis-(thioglycollate) esters of improved purity and higher flash point, and storage stable di-organotin- S,SSP1/SP-bis-(thioglycollate) esters substantially free from diorganotin-S,O-mercaptoacetate impurity are claimed.
