In a system for the gasification of coal to produce methane or synthesis gas, assisted by the closed cooling circuit of a nuclear reactor, use is made of two such circuits. the first includes a steam gasifier, and the second a cracking reactor. A part of the produced methane is cracked in the latter at a high temp. to hydrogen which is used for the hydrogasification of another part of the charge. A complete gasification of coal is achieved with max. gas yield and min. heat conversion into electricity. Most of the methane is produced by hydrogasification.
