Ore containing the required metals is finely crushed and mixed with powdered carbonaceous reducing agent. The resulting pulverised mixture is moulded into briquettes and the briquettes mixed with a powdered silica rock. The resulting change is put in a smelting furnace and reduced at =2,000 degrees C. Useful for producing the Fe-Si-Al ferro alloys.
