The recovery of vanadium pentoxide hydrate and fertilisers from V and P contg. crude iron or Si content up to 0.1% comprises (a) bubbling fluidised alkali carbonate into the liquid crude iron, using air; (b) removing the slag and, after cooling with water, leaching; (c) pptg. vanadium pentoxide hydrate from the aq. soln. using acid; (d) working up the slag residue to a phosphate-contg. fertiliser. The fluidised alkali carbonate is pref. potassium carbonate (potash) and is pref. blown in at an amount of 8-12 kg/ (prep 10 kg.) per ton crude iron. The process is simple and can be carried out on an industrial scale.
