With a carriage which can travel on the casting platform of a continuous casting plant, with a starting strand bed for intermediate storage and for insertion of a starting strand provided with a starting head into the strand guide, the starting strand is connected to a conveyor carriage which can travel over the starting strand bed and is passed into the strand guide over a quarter circle guide section which can be brought up to the mould opening. To develop a cost-effective carriage with which the starting head can be guided safely into the mould, the conveyor carriage (16), which approximately corresponds to the cross-section of the starting strand, can travel with side guide rollers (17) running in U-shaped side guides (14,15) on both sides of the path of the starting strand on the starting strand bed (6) and on the quarter circle guide section, until directly above the upper edge of the mould.
