An earthing switch for medium-voltage or high-voltage switching and distribution installations which are encapsulated in insulating material, having a switching contact pin which can be driven in the axial direction for earthing switching and distribution devices arranged inside the encapsulation is distinguished by the switching contact pin (26) being composed of a front longitudinal region (27) which projects during the earthing process and consists of insulating material, and of a metallic contact longitudinal region (28) adjacent thereto; this switching contact pin penetrates the encapsulating wall (10) and is surrounded in this penetration region by at least one radial seal (39, 40, 41). In its earthing position, the switching contact pin is inserted so far into the interior of the encapsulation that its metallic contact longitudinal region is connected both to an earth lead (51) which is connected outside the encapsulation as well as to an earthing contact point (25) which is located in the interior of the encapsulation; on the other hand, in its opposite, that is to say non-earthing, position it is guided so far out of the encapsulation that its entire metallic contact longitudinal region is located outside the encapsulation, and the front longitudinal region of the switching contact pin, which consists of insulating material, is located in the penetration region - closing said region in a sealed manner - of said encapsulation.
