A cigarette vending machine is a component of an optimisation system and has a certain number of wells for accommodating stacks of cigarette packages. A circuit arrangement provided with its own voltage supply is influenced by well-related signal switches. All signal switches are connected via a common link to a summation switch which is operated offset in time compared with the signal switches. This summation switch is connected to a latching element which is actuated when a removal device is transferred into the removal position. The signal switches increment a digital counter, the outputs of which are connected to address inputs of a random-access memory (RAM). The random-access memory receives digital data signals in accordance with the signal switch operated in each case. IMAGE
