In a direction-finding and locating system having several spatially separate receiving stations and a central station connected to each receiving station, data messages, which are simultaneously sent out in the receiving stations and correspond to simultaneously taken measurement samples, arrive at the central station at different times due to different transit times from different receiving stations to the central station, as a result of which it becomes difficult to allocate different data messages in the correct time. By sending out a test message from the central station to all receiving stations and directly sending these back from there to the central station, the differences in the transit times can be determined, and in the central station, buffer memories for the signals of the closer stations can be set as determined by the transit time differences determined, in such a manner that the data messages arriving earlier are delayed by the transit time difference with respect to the data message arriving last, so that all associated data messages are present simultaneously for evaluation.
