Visual pedestrian crossing control indicator for traffic lights - with figure represented by elementary light sources coupled in parallel to control circuit

The traffic control device is used to indicate when pedestrians may cross, and comprises a panel which has a large number of elementary light sources, selectively energised to provide a required visual image eg. a stationary or walking figure. The elementary light sources are connected in parallel to the control circuit for the indicator. Pref. the elementary light sources comprise LED's arranged as a printed circuit board (18) in the outline of a human silhouette, selected LED's energised so that the silhouette appears stationary or walking. Pref the signal lamps for the traffic control lights are also provided by LED's; each lamp uses 4 concentric sets of LED's with 3 groups of sets one above the other and a respective colour filter in front of each.
