The tool comprises a die with a complementary matrix and may be used to press sheet metal automobile panels, being of an adaptable lightweight disposable construction. The components each comprise a one piece substructure or core block (3,4,5) lined with resin (8). The resin may be reinforced or contain additives, and the core blocks may be of ply-wood or bakelised timber. The construction process uses a model (1) together with undersize core-formers (3,4,5) and a moulded wax shell (2) in lieu of a sheet-metal workpiece. Matrix former (3) is lined initially by pouring resin (8) between (7) shell (2) and former (3) mounted on spacers (6), and die (4) is lined in a similar manner.
