The polarised, incoherent light for the first seed treatment is in the wavelength range of 6300 to 6500 Angstroms. The monochromatic polarised, coherent light, used for the second irradiation has a wavelength of 6328 Angstrom. The treatment defice device has a proportional seed supply to the treatment zone and a source of monochromatic radiation with a scanner. It comprises two blocks and a chamber (6) with a retaining trough (10) for the treated seeds. One block (12) connects the source (3) of the monochromatic radiation to its scanner (4). The second block forms an irradiation chamber with an additional light source (7), an optical filter (8) and a polariser. The retaining trough in this chamber has a slot at right angles to the scanning beam of the monochromatic light source. One chamber longitudinal wall forms a plane, feeding the seed into the treatment zone.
