Automatic conveyor mechanism for cutting and stripping wire sections - uses system of toothed belts to increase accuracy of wire length drawn and has articulated jaw mechanism to strip insulation
The mechanism is part of a fully automatic and programmable sequence and runs on a conveyor carousel arrangement. Wire is drawn from a supply reel and passes between a set of toothed belts. A large belt is driven around pulley wheels by a smaller, internal belt whose teeth mesh with those on the inner surface of the first belt. The wire is pressed against the first belt by another belt which moves in the same plane. Loosely mounted rollers form a flexible support for the wire. The wire-stripping work station has an articulated pair of jaws armed with blades which pierce the insulation from opposite sides of the wire. The jaws are driven by a worm gear via an eccentrically mounted pin and disc. The jaw assembly is moved longitudinally along a slide bar by a stepping motor. The separation of the jaws and length of insulation removed from the wire can be varied.
