The lightweight alloy horseshoe (1) has one or more embedded wear resistant inserts (4), made of steel or other material with good resistance to wear and abrasion. The insert appears on and is flush with the bottom surfaces of the shoe which may be made by casting with the inserts previously positioned in the mould. The horseshoe also has apertures (2) for receiving nails and attaching the horseshoe to a hoof.
