The overhead cable support system includes two parallel carrier wires of smaller diameter lying in the same horizontal plane as the main cable. Collars (6) which fit around the main cable each have two eyelets (8,10) diametrically opposite each other to receive the two supporting wires. A stirrup may hold the cable, using two clamps to hold the two support wires while the main cable passes through the gap in the middle of the stirrup. In an alternative arrangement the two support wires may be joined together by a further rigid wire which links them by being wrapped into a helical shape. The main cable then lies within the helix.
