The electro-mechanical displacement controller uses gear driven camshafts with mechanical switches running on the cam to signal that the cam has moved to a position corresponding to a set position of the tool carriage. The carriage displacement causes rotation of an input shaft (1) which drives multiple pairs of cams (6) through various reduction gear trains (2), the two cams (3,4) in each pair turning at different speeds, one fast and the other slow, the fast one giving intermediate position data and the slow one end position data. Each cam is circular in profile and has a cut-out into which a roller, connected to a microswitch (11) falls to close the electric circuit.
