The invention relates to a machine for harvesting plants grown in lines. In order that the automotive chassis 1a-1b may be fitted out with large-diameter front wheels and broad tyres suitable for the great weight of the machine carrying a storage hopper 20, the invention provides steerable rear wheels, such as 5A, and front wheels, such as 4A, which are driving only and placed to the rear of the harvesting equipment 6-9; this equipment is preferably mounted beneath a pivoting frame 3, which can be caused to pivot either by the driver, or automatically with the aid of a sensor 18 which senses the lines of plants.
