Manufacturing needled mineral fibre blankets

A method of manufacturing needled mineral fibre blankets comprises laying down a fleece of mineral fibres which are coated with a lubricant or grease and applying a layer of plastics fibres, e.g. of polyethylene, polyvinyl alcohol, polyacrylate or polyamide, to the fleece and then needling all the fibres to interconnect and mat them together. The product may comprise several layers of mineral fibre, and of plastics fibres, a knitted glass fibre fabric and a layer of clay or alumina filler. A powdered phenol or amine formaldehyde resin may be incorporated.
