PURPOSE:To increase the amount of intake water per the unit length of the weir embankment and to enable stable water intake, by providing a short-cut part in a part of the weir embankment in the intake weir embankment having a downstream- side wall surface formed at an angle of depression and taking in water which flows down the wall surface. CONSTITUTION:In the vicinity of a contact point 9 of a steep-gradient plane 2 on the upstream side of the top part of the weir embankment with the wall surface 4 of the weir embankment on the downstream side, the water containing alien substances which flows from the water surface 5 on the upstream side flows down along the wall surface 4 having the angle of depression in the direction 9-11 and runs into an intake channel 8, while the alien substances drop down in the direction 9- 10 on the downstream side slightly apart from the perpendicular direction. In the case of a three-stage weir embankment, the short-cut parts A and B are provided in parts of the weir embankment of the first and second stages from the upstream so that a part of running water can flow down in a short-cut way. The short-cut part is not provided in the third-stage weir embankment, the lowest stage thereof, so as for water intake to be possible even when the amount of supplied water is minimum.
