NEW MATERIAL:8-Benzyloxy-5-{ 1-hydroxy-2- [ N- ( 2-p-methoxyphenyl-1-methylethyl)-N-acetylamino]ethyl} carbostyril shown by the formula I or its acid addition salt. USE:A drug for bronchiectasis having high irritating action on adrenergic beta2-receptor. PREPARATION:A compound shown by the formula II or formula III (OY is OH, or protected OH) is reduced to give a compound shown by the formula IV. When OY is protected OH, a protecting group is removed from the compound shown by the formula IV, and, if necessary, the reaction product is converted into a pharmaceutically acceptable acid addition salt to give a compound shown by the formula I or its pharmaceutically acceptable acid addition salt.
