PURPOSE:To decrease generation of spatters and to obtain good weldability by controlling optionally the ratio between the high current period when high current is conducted from right after generation of an arc in short circuit transfer arc welding and the low current period when a short-circuit arises in succession thereto. CONSTITUTION:The ratio TAB/TAP between a low current period TAB and a high current period TAP is set and the specified ratio TAB/TAP is maintained by increasing or decreasing the period TAP, a low current value IAB, a wire feed speed and a high current value IAP or high voltage value VAP according to the error between the set ratio and the detected actual ratio. If, therefore, the actual ratio increases as compared to the set ratio TABT/AP and the number of short- circuits decreases, the burning up rate of the wire is decreased by decreasing the period TAP, the value IAB and the value IAP or the value VAP according to the rate of the error and further the number of short-circuits is increased by increasing the wire feed speed. Conversely when the actual ratio decreases, the period TAP, the value IAB and the value TAP or the value VAP are increased and further the wire feed speed is decreased to decrease the number of short-circuits.
