PURPOSE:To obtain a trivalent iron salt without adding external energy, by forming a battery from an anode using air as an active substance, a cathode using a divalent iron salt as an active substance and a sulfuric acid electrolyte, and performing discharge to apply electrolytic oxidation to the divalent iron salt. CONSTITUTION:Air is supplied to an anode 1 from an air inlet 4. When a liquid mixture consisting ferrous sulfate and sulfuric acid supplied from a cathode active substance supply port 6 is contacted with a cathode 2 and simultaneously penetrated into a matrix 3, potential difference is generated between both electrodes 1, 2 and a current is flowed through the variable load resistor 8 of an external circuit. By the discharge of this battery, ferrous sulfate receives electrolytic oxidation at the cathode 2 to be converted to ferric sulfate. This ferric sulfate is discharged out of the battery from a cathode reaction product takeout port 7 and recirculated if necessary to be concentrated. In addition, the resistance value of the variable load resistor 8 is controlled by watching the indication value of an external ammeter 9.
